The Hunt for Good Christmas Music

10 Dec

Of the many unusual things I get to do as an event planner, the latest adventure I went on didn’t require leaving my office. It did, however require suffering through an extreme amount of Christmas music to come up with the perfect holiday playlist for this weekends  Moretown Artisans’ Sale.

As a result, I’ve been informed by reliable sources that I may develop something called Post-Christmatic-Music Syndrome (PCMS).  It occurs more commonly after a season’s long exposure to the Hallmarking of Christmas, but in rare cases such as mine, it occurs after mass exposure to holiday madness. Symptoms include repeated humming of holiday tunes, a reluctance to stop putting up holiday decorations, and worst of all: a notable lack of style as seen by wearing bright red sweatshirts with white collars and prints of kittens on them, or the wearing of light-up tree ornament shaped jewelery. (Fortunatly I have have only showed mild signs like humming and sometimes tapping my foot to Christmas music.)  Sadly, while there are ways to suppress it, there is no known cure for this mind-numbing illness. Should my immune system weaken and I succumb to this disease, as an event planner, I will just have to carry on!

In spite of the immensely large amount of horrible holiday tunes I listened to, I have completed making what I feel is the best blend of holiday music ever, (it’s actually 50/50 with non-holiday tunes…) And I haven’t been able to get the holly-jolly out of my ears in days. At this point, I’ve relented and am just listening to my playlist to a.) edit the list and make sure there are no surprises and b.) give in to the holiday spirit now that we actually have snow and it looks the part… But don’t worry! I have increased my intake of Grunge Rock to counter the effects of PCMS.

And after all that work, I figured the least I could do is share with you my faorite holiday tunes. I figured I’d spare you the bad tunes, because they are so bad that you never want to hear them. Their’ staying power is overwhelming and you’ll have them stuck in your head all day. So here’s my Hit list so you don’t have to suffer PCMS, which I fear I will inevitably succumb to.  (Sorry that not all of these are linked up… I’m working on it!)

Cheers!

Holiday buzz buzz

20 Nov

I love planning events because it allows me to really flex my creative muscle and come up with new twists on traditional approaches to things. But of all the events that’s I’ve been a part of, The Moretown Artisans’ Sale, and more specifically the new use of the lower level for this event, REALLY allows me to get my Holiday buzz on!

Last night I met with the woman running the Kids Craft Corner for the show (Jessica Knoop – coolest kid taker-care-of-er ever!!) and did we have fun coming up with ideas for the event! We will have tons of fun ornaments and other crafts for the kids to make. The place is going to be so beautiful, you’d never know you were in the Town Hall!

Check on the Moretown Artisans’ blog for more information or contact me if you have any questions!

Can’t wait for the Sale!

Get your holiday groove on!

16 Nov

Holy Macaroni!

I have a love/hate relationship with this time of year! I can’t ski, but it’s typically to cold or wet to do the other fun outdoorsy things I like. It’s also hunting season so I have to convince my dog to wear her bright orange jacket before going outside. That can certainly be a challenge.

But I am in the most exciting phases of planning for the Moretown Artisans’ Sale! I’m about to litter the area with posters, send out press releases and photos and ads. I’m designing the layout for the new activities that will go on in the lower lever and finalizing the vendor list for the show! I’m just so excited I can hardly handle it!

I am also getting ready for an open house that I will host at my office this Saturday! (I will post more on this in a bit.) And there’s also the awesome telelmark movie: the FreeHeel Life coming soon to the Big Picture! Oh yeah – and Thanksgiving is coming up too! :)

Not quite a chicken (or a turkey?) with it’s head cut off, I’m still running around trying to make sure all my plans are perfectly executed! It’s a challenge I am most certainly up to! The more work I do, the more of a groove I get in to, and the more exciting things get!

I will be updating both this page and my Moretown Artisans’ Blog with serious regularity now so be sure to check them both daily!

Groovin’
